The Mission Team

This was our twelfth mission trip to Ensenada, Baja, Mexico, which was a great success. We had the support of the Camarillo Christian Church, Simi Valley Presbyterian Church, St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Simi Valley and many other churches. These churches sent members, medicines, supplies, medical equipment, toys, clothes, and prayers. Surgical instruments, supplies and medications were provided by St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Community Memorial Hospital and Simi Valley Hospital. Eye glasses were provided by the Navy Base Port Hueneme.
We held our clinic the first day at the DIF about ten minutes south of Ensenada and the next day we worked in a gymnasium in Maneadero which was a little further south of there. We had 67 mission team members including 13 physicians, 1 dentist, 2 chiropractors, 1 nurse practitioner, 2 physician assistants, 3 Mexican dentists, 1 Mexican optometrist, 1 medical assistant, 11 nurses, 2 medical students, 1 pre-dental student, and many helpers of all ages.
Number of patients treated: Medical/Surgical/Chiropractic 783, Dental 82, Optometry 80 - TOTAL 945. About 30 minor surgical procedures were performed and diabetes education was provided. The dental team performed extractions and fillings. Patients were prayed for and told that Christ cared for them.
We thanked God for the many, many helpers on the team. The trip could not have been as effective without the non-medical support team to drive the cars and vans, help the doctors with setup, interpreting, delivering messages, handing out medicines and health kits, assist in running the pharmacy, and sharing the gospel, etc.. They also provided day care for the children and a clothing ministry. Worship music was provided by the youth on the mission team and was lead by a recording artist.
We were especially blessed with the local leadership of Dr. Ramon Vidauri and the hospitality of the Ensenada mayor's office which provided free motel rooms for about thirty of our mission team members. The health care we provided in Ensenada was possible because of Dr. Vidauri's excellent relationship with the city's leaders and his arranging places for us practice. He and the Mexican churches created the publicity necessary for the people to be aware of our coming and the services we could provide. God truly opened the doors of the city to us and we believe that His name was honored in all that we did and that the citizens of Ensenada were encouraged in their faith.
