Mission Trip Updates
The plans for the July 10-11, 2009, mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico, are going well. We are collecting surgical supplies and medications. Members are still signing up. There will be a mission trip team planning meeting on May 23 here in Camarillo (the exact location TBA).
In regards to the Swine Flu pandemic, Dr. Ramon Vidauri in Ensenada and Pastor Juan Domingo at Calvary Chapel in Ensenada say that there has been no cases of the flu in that city and that most of the flu in Mexico is still regional and mostly around Mexico City and some other outlaying areas. Also there is ample Tamiflu in Mexico for treating anyone coming down with flu symptoms.
However, on April 28, 2009, the US Department of State issued a travel alert advising that all nonessential travel to Mexico be avoided at this time. You can read the bulletin at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_3028.html.
Since this pandemic is a developing situation and we do not know how severe it will be or how long it will last, we are continuing to plan and prepare for the mission trip to Ensenada, but, if the Department of State does not lift its current travel restrictions before the trip date we will have to cancel it. We anticipate that this flu will be gone by July7. If you have any suggestions or questions about this, please let us know.
We will check the State Department alerts frequently and let you know of any changes to them. In the meantime, please continue to pray for the people in Mexico, that this Swine flu pandemic will end soon, and for the mission trip.
